I began working in the HVAC industry as a sheet metal mechanic in 1987. In September of 1995 I came to work for Summers & Zim's. Having worked with them through a subcontractor for a few years that was an easy decision. It was nice to start a new job already knowing the owners and most of my co-workers.

I have worked on a larger variety of jobs from commercial to residential. Most challenging are older homes. You need to keep the integrity of the house and at the same time, be able to accommodate the comforts of a modern home.

In the HVAC industry, training is one of the most important things. Whether it's in sales, service installation or customer service it is needed in order to maintain superior quality. This is something we take pride in achieving. Joe Zimmerman once said, "It takes years to earn a good reputation, but only minutes to get a bad one." I started in the HVAC industry as an installer in 1982. After working several years as an installation and service technician I really started to feel good about my knowledge and my ability to diagnose even the most difficult problems.

In 1996, Summers & Zim's had an opening in the estimating department. My days (and nights) of intense education began all over again. Now five years later I have become the manager of this department. One thing is for sure, when your working a Summers & Zim's you had better bring an attitude of constant learning. Continuing education is the key to staying on top of the technological changes taking place in our industry. We recently built a training center due to the large number of courses required and the number of technicians that are attending. My wife, Donna, and I have really grown to enjoy the family atmosphere that exists in our organization even as we have grown to 50+ employees. — Brad Kurtz
