Residential Heating Tips

If you are shutting down a gas or oil furnace for summer, be sure all connections are in good condition. Cracked, rotted or dirty parts will only decay more over the summer months and cause you problems in the fall when you turn the system back on.
If you have a humidifier on your heating system, be sure to turn it to the off position for summer. Close the duct damper, if you have one, or turn it to the summer position.
To reduce the amount of heat created in your home by the sun on your windows and patio doors during the summer, keep drapes and blinds closed during peak daytime hours.
